The Seattle South African Scholarship Foundation helps students who have successfully graduated from their secondary education and have demonstrated excellence in their studies to continue their academic journeys. It serves students who have attended Hector Peterson School in the Wallacedene Township of Kraaifontein, Cape Town, South Africa. It is our goal to reach students who are living in significant poverty, who would be otherwise unable to further their education, and who have demonstrated academic strength and leadership potential. It is our hope that as part of realizing their dreams, these students will give back to their communities, thus contributing their TALENTS, PASSIONS, and COMMITMENT to their country at a time when so much is at stake in the future of South Africa.

OUR HISTORY

SSASF began in 2008 when a Seattle non-profit organization brought a group of high school students from Hector Peterson School near Cape Town, South Africa, to Seattle for several weeks. During that time, the students attended school and stayed in the homes of Seattle high school and middle school students. After the South African students returned to Hector Peterson, many of the Seattle-area students who hosted them realized how much the visit had meant to them. They decided they wanted to do something more to help the students they had come to know, and so SSASF, the Seattle South African Scholarship Foundation, was born. Composed of students from multiple Seattle-area schools, SSASF assumed the mission of providing distinguished South African students with financial assistance for their college tuition fees. Since then, SSASF has grown in size and scope, but it still has retained its original and singular purpose of providing education to those in need. SSASF has also attained 501c3 status.
